Equine Team Performing Well

USU Equine Team On To National Competition

Utah State University’s Western Equestrian Team head coach, Jason Romney, led USU to their second straight regional title. Competing against seven other universities, the USU Equine Team scored highest, which left them 2012 regional champions.

Winning the regional title instantly qualified the team for the semi-final competition, which was held in Ocala, Florida. Kelsey Romney, Marie Yamane, Tina Willis, Rachel Wilkey, Austin Smith, Mandy Allen, and Camille White were the team members that represented USU in the competition.

Out of those participants Austin Smith placed second, Rachel Wilkey placed third and Kelsey Romney placed 4th.

Because Kelsey Romney was this year’s high point rider in reining and horsemanship, she will be representing USU at the national competition. She will be competing against all the other high point riders in the nation in North Carolina May 3-6 for the national title.

“She is very talented in what she does and will do a great job representing USU at nationals.” said Jason.

The USU equine program has really expanded due to the recent developments of the Equine Education Center. Now, almost two years later, the equestrian team has been provided with a facility that helps them practice to the best of their abilities.

The USU equine program is recognized not only throughout the state, but throughout the nation because of the commitment and dedication of the coaches and students involved. Both individually and as a whole this team is outstanding. No matter where they are, or what they are doing; they bring their very best as they represent USU and the equine program.
