Biology 1100 Fall, Spring and Summer Semester

Introduction to Microbiology: Biology and the role of microorganisms in the world around us, with emphasis on their contributions to human disease. Offered only through Independent Study. No laboratory component. Not open to students with credit in Biology 1110.
   
Biology 1110 Fall Semester
Elementary Microbiology: Biology and role of microorganisms in the world around us, with emphasis on their contributions to human disease. Not intended for biology majors.
   
Biology 1210 Fall Semester
3 Credits  
Introduction to Biology: Principles of cell biology, energetics, and genetics. Plant structure, function, and development. To receive Breadth Life Sciences credit, students must complete both Biology 1210 and 3300.
   
Biology 1220 Spring Semester
1 Credit  
Introduction to Biology Laboratory: Animal structure, function, and development. Principles of evaluation, ecology, and behavior.
Prerequisites: Biology 1210.
   
Honors 1310 Microbiology Fall Semester
3 Credits  
Introduction to Microbiology: The primary objective of this course is to help students become “microbially aware” to enable them to understand contemporary, even controversial issues of extreme importance to the future of humanity that involve microbes in agriculture. The second objective is to understand the scientific method and become familiar with scientific terminology.
Prerequisites: Biology 1210 or equivalent
   
Biology 3300 Fall and Spring Semester
4 Credits  
Microbiology: Biology, ecology, and diversity of microorganisms. Emphasis placed on bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protists, and their role in the environment. Two lectures, two labs.
Prerequisites: Biology 1210 (with a grade of C- or better); Chem 1120 or 2310 (may be taken concurrently). To receive Breadth Life Sciences credit, students must complete both Biology 1210 and 3300.
   
PubH 5020, 4040 Spring Semester
3 Credits  
Fundamentals of Epidemiology: Epidemiology in health and disease. Epidemiological approach to investigating health and disease.
Prerequisites: Biology 1220; Biology 1110 (for PubH 5020)
