| USU INTERCOLLEGIATE EQUESTRIAN TEAM |
| |
|
Utah State University offers students the opportunity to compete in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) show throughout the school year. Utah State University’s Equestrian Team features both western and English style riding, specifically western horsemanship, reining, huntseat equitation and equitation over fences.
The team meets bi-weekly at the Equine Education Center to prepare for competition on a variety of university owned horses. Shows are scheduled throughout Utah, Montana and Idaho at schools within our region.
During the 2005-2006 school year, the western team was high point team for our region, was also high point team for this zone (includes all western states) and placed 11th at the National competition.

The 2007 IHSA National Championship Show
USU had 2 riders compete at Nationals this past weekend. There are over 7,000 riders in the IHSA, 400 made it to Nationals among them from USU there were 2 riders, Jason Romney and Katie Rose.
Jason Romney placed third in the Open Reining with a score of 142. This qualifies Jason to ride in the NRHA Derby this month. Only the top 4 open riders in the Nation qualified for the Collegiate classes in the Derby. This is a very big honor to be bestowed upon a USU rider.
Rider Katie Rose had a phenomenal ride in her Walk Trot Class, but unfortunately was not able to place. This does not change the fact that Katie is one of the top 12 walk trot riders in the Nation. |
