PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
 
  • 2001 to Present - Research Assistant Professor/Veterinary Pathologists, Utah State University.


  • 1996 to Dec.2001 - Research Assisitant/Graduate Student, Department of Veterinary Microbiology/Pathology, Washington State University.
      Focus of training in the theory and practice of biomedical research, grant writing/procurement, mammalian immunology and mechanisms of disease. Applied research to elucidate mechanisms of epithelial cell invasion using in vivo (fish models) and in vitro (mammalian culture, primary and established fish cell culture) models. Cross-training in mammalian and fish immunology. Doctoral defense December 2001.


  • 1996 to 2001 - Anatomic Pathology Resident, Washington State Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, Washington State University.
      Necropsy Pathology Duties:
      • Conduct postmartem examinations on large and small animals including exotic animals and fish.
      • Ancillary test selection and tissue collection/processing for histopathology.
      • Histologic examination and communication of gross and histologic findings to referring veterinarians and clients, both orally and in written format.
      • Instruction and direction of fourth-year veterinary students during the academic school year.

      Surgical Pathology Duties:
      • Responsible for examining 10 surgical accessions weekly and interpreting any pathology present.
      • A written description of the tissue is generated providing a diagnosis and prognosis for the referring veterinarian.
      • Review of all cases with a senior pathologist before communicating results to referring veterinarian and/or client.

      Current Board Eligible Status:
      • Pursue board certification by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, September 2002.
