- Surgical Procedures - Rumen fistulation and duodenal T-cannulation.
- Feed Analysis Procedures - Proximate analysis, Van Soest analysis, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, sulfur, copper, cobalt, manganese, zinc, selenium, iron, nitrogen (ammonia, urea, nitrate, nitrite, a-amino, amide), invert sugar, pH, volatile fatty acids, lactate, viable bacteria and rumen solubility/degradability.
- Nutrient Digestibility and Utilization Procedures - In vitro (two-stage and enzmatic), In vivo (total fecal collection, internal markers and external markers), In situ (nylon bag), protein efficiency ratio, nitrogen balance and amino acid availability.
- Digestive System Kinetics Procedures - Rumen fluid dilution rate (polyethylene glycol, chromium-EDTA), rumen liquid volume and dry matter content (polyethylene glycol, chromium-EDTA), rumen particulate rate of passage and turnover rate (samarium, chromium mordant neutral detergent fibers).
